Job Role - Senior Architect

A good candidate for this role would:

  1. Have 20+ years’ experience in a project architect role – highly skilled in detailing buildings of all construction types, code, coordination, etc 

  2. Be willing and adept mentor to junior staff 

  3. Have some specifications writing experience 

  4. Be open to working part-time with a flexible schedule and be open to working from home/remotely 

This position might be perfect for: 

  • An older architect looking to reduce hours but stay engaged in the field,

  • A parent-architect looking for a flexible work environment,

  • An architect who wants the flexibility to go snowboarding/paddle boarding/hiking/biking/climbing/knitting/etc on a Tuesday when the conditions are right

Here’s a little bit more about the role:

The Senior Architect will

1.    Be the single point of accountability for the

a.    quality, precision, thoroughness, coordination, and constructability of project designs and contract documents,

b.    specifications writing, and

c.     technical development and mentorship of junior technical staff,

based on the firm’s Mission, Vision, and Values.

2.    Assist the sales team in determining project lead scope of work:

a.    Determine needed sub-consultants

b.    Daylight any potential pitfalls

c.     Proofread draft proposal, scope, and fee documents

3.   Perform QA/QC review at project milestones: Concept Design, Design Dev, Construction Docs, The Last 5%:

a.    Review drawings for completeness, conformance to standards, coordination with other disciplines, coordination with specs

b.    Review specs for coordination with drawings

c.    Meet with project team to review comments

d.    Backcheck review comments from previous milestone review process

4.    Serve as mentor and technical resource for junior project staff:

a.    Attend weekly project meetings

b.    Be available by phone and email to answer questions

c.     Research and recommend solutions for tricky technical situations

d. Attend design and coordination meetings as needed to provide technical support.

5.    Write project specifications:

a.    Follow project milestone process checklists and develop specifications to appropriate milestone level.

6.    Serve as resource for project team during Bidding/Permitting/Construction

a.    Cost estimate support

b.    Technical and constructability challenges support

7.    Communicate with the following people in the following meetings:

a.    Operations Manager/CEO

b.    Other project staff

c. Monday morning Weekly Meeting

d. Project meetings as needed

8.    Perform other general tasks and responsibilities

a.    Participate in office cultural events such as Design Chats, Brown Bag Lunches, Community involvement, etc
