Job Role - Project Architect II, Design Staff III

A good candidate for this role would:

  • Have 3+ years’ experience in a project architect or similar role – skilled in detailing buildings of all construction types, code, coordination, etc 

  • Be willing and adept mentor to junior staff 

  • Be a licensed architect or experienced designer

  • Have some specifications writing experience 

  • Be open to working 3/4 time with a flexible schedule and be open to working from home/remotely 

  • Be proficient in Revit, Sketchup, Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative Suite

Here’s a little bit more about the role:

The person in this role will

  1. Be the single point of accountability for the resounding success and comprehensive architectural design and documentation for projects based on the firm’s Mission, Vision, and Values,

  2. Develop and document designs as if it is their stamp on the drawings and their license on the line,

  3. Hands on development of design materials and construction documents utilizing but not limited to the software platforms listed above

  4. Practice extreme Ownership of the full scope of architectural services for specific projects:

    • Project discovery and site analysis

    • Programming

    • Development of a strong design concept that is responsive to site, program, client must-haves and wishlist, codes, sustainability goals, etc

    • Development of design to a detailed level

    • Review and markup of design elements developed by other project team members

    • Ensure project standards are met

    • Design documentation for bidding, construction, and permitting

    • Technical responses to questions during bidding, permitting, and construction

    • Construction observation and administration

    • Project closeout assistance

  5. Be responsible for architectural design presentations and periodic client updates and working sessions throughout the Project Process.

  6. Be the main point of contact for coordination with discipline sub-consultants.

  7. Management and mentorship of junior staff

  8. Help develop personal and firm capabilities by working toward fulfillment of quarterly goals, to be defined collaboratively with the CEO.

Communications/Team Meetings

The Project Architect…

  • Reports to the Operations Manager

  • Supervises junior project team members: drafter, designer, etc

  • Collaborates with all staff

  • Participates in the following meetings

    • Weekly Team Meeting

    • Once a month in-person team get-togethers

    • Re-occurring and/or impromptu project team meetings

    • Lead Re-occurring coordination meetings with consultants

    • Lead technical aspects of Project Process milestone kick-off meetings

    • Lead design presentation and workshop meetings with client

    • Occasional miscellaneous in-person meetings in the Portland, OR area

    • Quarterly performance review meetings

Other general tasks and responsibilities

a.    Participate in office cultural events such as Design Chats, Brown Bag Lunches, Community involvement, etc
